Health and Natural Sciences Student Community
Degree Requirements
Students must complete at least 120 credits to graduate, including 68 credits in the major. The biology curriculum also includes courses in biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. These requirements are under development and you must make regular advising appointments in order to stay on track for graduation.

The BSE major is interdisciplinary. You are not required to take 18 upper division credits outside the major. You are required to complete 48 upper division credits for your degree.

A class may count for only one requirement within the BSE major. It may also count towards the liberal education requirement or another degree requirement. Students should take at least one upper division writing intensive course within the BSE major.

Theme Requirements
Five courses from approved list of theme electives, in consultation with an adviser.  Some examples of thematic concentrations might be: Ethics, Economics, and Politics of Health Care; the Global Environment; Biology and the US Government; Communicating Biology to the Public.

Written & Oral Communication Requirement
A Senior Project (or Honors Senior Thesis) is required from all students graduating with a degree from the College of Liberal Arts.  This can be satisfied in one of three ways:

* Registering for 2 additional credits in any upper division course taken.  The credits must be satisfied by either a written paper or an oral presentation at the faculty member's option.

* Registering for 3 credits of Directed Research with a faculty member having special expertise in the subject of the proposed project.

* Registering for 3 credits of Directed Research, Geography 3990, with the BSE Director of Undergraduate Studies.
