Many students choose to transfer to the Institute of Technology to pursue various IT majors.  Keep in mind that pre-health programs do not care which major you choose.

Students planning to transfer to IT should be pursuing a lower division engineering, science, or math program. By the time you apply for admission, you should have completed most of the mathematics, chemistry, physics, and computer science courses required for your preferred major.

Admission decisions are based on the overall GPA using grades in science and mathematics. Because demand for some IT programs exceeds available spaces, applicants are asked to indicate three majors in order of preference.

Students who wish to transfer from one degree program to another on the Twin Cities campus and those who want to transfer from University of Minnesota coordinate campuses must complete a Change of College form.

Admission is based on successful completion of appropriate courses and the calculation of a "technical grade point average" (GPA) using grades in calculus, chemistry, computer science, calculus-based physics, and calculus-based statistics. If a specific course has been repeated, only the second grade is used in the "technical GPA" for the purpose of admission. Applicants are usually considered for transfer if they have completed at least the freshman-year curriculum of the major to which they are seeking admission.
